Some things
have happened since my last post
One of my closest
friends Dan Tanaka suggested I go to an New England
Championship Wrestling (NECW) show last year. I really enjoyed their
show and ended up going back for another show or two over the
following months in the 2nd half of last year. I was talking to
NECW's promoter Sheldon Goldberg after the show, and
in doing so I realized how much I missed working actively in the
business in some way. I know if I really wanted to I could do
WAM events all on my own, but it is a lot of work and I wasn't
willing to dedicate myself to doing it all by myself. I asked
Sheldon if he could use some ring security for the shows and he
said sure so I began to do that. Not long after that Sheldon and
I were discussing the possibilites of me working with him to help
expand NECW and I jumped at the chance at being an NECW local promoter.
So as of this
year I am now working for NECW and am focusing on
that.
Do Bob and I
have any plans for WAM at the moment? No. I would not put the
nail in the casket. I am sure some day we will do something again.
It may be this year, or it may not be. I can't answer that. We
will see what happens. But, working as a Local Promoter for NECW was an opportunity that I could not pass up and
Bob supported this decision so I took the position with NECW.
I really enjoyed
my history with WAM and am proud of what we were able to accomplish.
We never made it anywhere near the stature of more respected independent
promotions or never achieved the notariety of big independent
promotions, but I always had fun with WAM. If I said it didn't
have its stresses I would be lying. I got so nerved up sometimes
I would be sick for days. But, in retrospect I enjoyed WAM events.
It gave me some much needed experience which I can now use working
for NECW.
Don't count
WAM out. We may be inactive and have been since April of 2004.
But, I would not say we are gone. Sometime in the future I am
sure we will do a fundraiser for an organization or sports team.
We may run on a periodic basis like we once did. You never know
what can happen in the wrestling business.
But, my priorities
are my duties with NECW. Not to discredit WAM, but working for NECW is like going from a baseball little league to
AAA baseball. It is a wonderful opportunity for me and I am going
to do my best working with NECW to help them further
their operations.
Bob and I put
a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into WAM. I will never forget
that big run we had several years ago. Maybe some day that will
happen again. Maybe it wont. I can't tell the future.
But, now I am
learning from and working for Sheldon Goldberg and NECW and my plans are to use that knowledge with NECW and to do whatever I can to help NECW grow. NECW in my personal opinion
is the elite of New England independent wrestling. Promotions
come and go. Some last for years. Some run once and disappear.
At any given time there may be 25 to 30 or more wrestling promotions
running in New England. But very few stand out above the rest.
NECW is one of those that stands out above all the
rest. For about 5 years now NECW has continued to grow
and will continue to grow.
I know I have
so much more to learn working with Sheldon and I hope I am succesful
in using that knowledge to aid NECW in continuing to grow.
I am enjoying my work with NECW and look forward to
a successful future working with NECW. I take great pride
in working with NECW and am estatic over the chance to work with them.
